More than pipes and wires

And so are the “families” in the utility industry. Trust me, your reputation can and does precede you within our small world.  Attend seminars and trade shows? Belong to a professional organization? Looking for another position? Your peers know you well. And it only gets deeper…

When I moved from San Diego to the Northwest in 1992, I discovered salesmen and engineers up here whom I knew when I was at SDG&E. And now that I work for a manufacturer’s representative, I interact with distributors I used to buy from when I worked at Puget Sound Energy. I’m honored to say they remember me favorably. That makes my job easier and more effective, all because of reputation.

I’ll share a little secret from this side of the negotiating table: manufacturers, representatives, distributors and contractors know you. And know you better than you may think.

And they talk. Oh, do they ever talk. You see, they’re a knowledgeable family too.
